Welcome to the tenth edition of the SocialSign.in Spotlight, our blog series featuring members of our network and what makes them special. This week, we’re shining the spotlight on iPlay America.
New Jersey knows how to have a good time. Despite being the 4th smallest state in America by geographic size, it’s home to some of the most fun, frequently visited tourist destinations in the Northeast. The coastal towns of Seaside Heights and Point Pleasant, part of the notorious Jersey Shore, thrive during the summer as locals and tourists flock to the beach and boardwalk for some relaxation. Drive south for 70 miles and you’ll hit Atlantic City, the perfect place for a bachelor/bachelorette party or spontaneous Friday night road trip. In Jackson, you’ll find some of the fastest and tallest roller coasters in the world at Six Flags Great Adventure, which is part of the reason it was named the second best theme park in America by USA Today. Those three places are really fun, for very different reasons, but they tend to be much less fun when it’s cold outside.
Which brings us to iPlay America, a massive indoor mecca of entertainment located in Freehold, New Jersey that opened November 11, 2011 to the delight of locals. For a better idea of how big iPlay America really is, the 115,000 square foot venue is over 2.5X larger than the flagship Dave & Buster’s in Dallas, and 4X larger than their average location.
Open 7 days a week, all year round, iPlay America combines some of the best aspects of AC, Six Flags and the Jersey Shore to create a venue that’s fun for children, teens and adults. Admission to iPlay America is free, as is the WiFi, allowing visitors to engage a la carte in everything they have to offer on-site…which is a lot.
Cosmic Battle Laser Tag is an 18 vs. 18 all-out skirmish in an enormous two-story arena. I don’t know about you, but the laser tag I played at birthday parties as a kid was in a room the size of a studio apartment. We had to take turns! If you prefer to be behind the wheel, the iPA Speedway Go Kart track inside iPlay America will satisfy your need for speed, or you can take it slow with a Spin Zone Bumper Car ride.
Kite Flyer, Dizzy Dragons and Skyscraper are three of the most popular rides at iPlay America and perfect for a younger crowd, as is the state-of-the-art indoor jungle gym and special effects driven 4-D movie theater you’d normally find in Disney World. The indoor boardwalk is a Jersey Shore greatest hits collection, lined with nostalgia filled games of chance and skill, the classic oversized cuddly incentives for success and fried Oreos, candy or frozen yogurt in case of defeat.
Playing games for hours can work up an appetite that sugar can’t satisfy, which is why the Boardwalk Grill and Game Time Bar & Grill serve a full menu for brunch, lunch and dinner. When the sun goes down and the kids go home, the venue catches a second wind with the older crowd in the area coming for drinks, live music every Saturday night, dueling piano performances, stand-up comedy and 23 flat screen TVs + projectors to watch any sporting event, including every UFC fight.
In our opinion, the best part of iPlay America is their massive arcade, which has over 200 games ranging from classics like Pac-Man and X-Men to a new Batman game from last year that puts you in the driver seat of the Batmobile. The size and variety of their collection reminds us of Barcade, except its five times the size.
You’ll find all of the ticket-reward games you’ve mastered over the years and can use a swipeable electronic iPlay America Game Card to track your progress and redeem prizes instead of lugging around a pocket full of tickets. Oh, and there is an entire room dedicated to the crane game.
When you add it all up, the result is one of the largest indoor theme parks in America, perfect for any special occasion or random afternoon. Then again, what else would you expect in New Jersey?
